Radiology: Ultrasound

Image of a Laboratory Employee performing an ultrasound examination on an applicant

The objective of the ultrasound/sonographic examination is to examine an applicant’s area of interest through the use of high frequency sound waves emitted by an ultrasound machine in order to produce morphological appearances of organs within an applicant’s body. The examination aids in diagnosing and treating a number of diseases and conditions. There is no radiation exposure associated with an ultrasound scan.

When scheduling an ultrasound exam, the technologist in charge will provide the applicant with verbal or written instructions on how to prepare for an examination.
